About the Trainer

Amanda Self, CPDT-KA Certified Professional Dog Trainer – Knowledge Assessed

Amanda is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer-Knowledge Assessed through The Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers. They require continuing education hours per year to hold this prestigious title and adhere to a strict Code of Ethics.

Amanda has worked with animals most of her life and becoming a professional dog trainer was a natural fit for her. She is a training and behavioral specialist and works with fearful and aggressive dogs having much success in managing those behaviors. She has attended Emma Parson’s “Healing Dog-To-Dog Aggression” and is a Worldwide Who’s Who VIP member for Outstanding Professionalism in the Dog Training Industry. Amanda is affiliated with the Ginny Milner Foundation helping rehabilitate aggressive, fearful and anxious rescue dogs so they can find their forever home.

She uses socializing and coping skills as well as the latest techniques available to help with these problems. She teaches Puppy classes, Basic Obedience classes and Intermediate classes. Amanda gives “in home” lessons and trains dogs in the Board and Train program. She offers Toy Breed daycare, is a basic Agility Instructor and builds great foundations for housebreaking and pee pad training.

Amanda has had success in training deaf dogs and trained her first dog for a Hallmark television movie “The Lost Valentine” which aired in January 2011. She is an AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator, has attended Karen Pryor’s Clicker Expo, Nicole Wilde’s Helping Fearful dogs seminar, is a professional member of APDT, attends The Association of Pet Dog Trainers annual conferences, has completed Pet Tech Training in CPR and First Aid and continues to educate herself in the Dog Training Industry.

Amanda enjoys walking dogs in the city and in parks, socializing and training them to greet properly with good manners. She enjoys climbing Stone Mountain, writing and painting. She has 4 dogs of her own. She trains with Positive Reinforcement Methods and loves to watch Victoria Stillwell’s show, ”It’s Me Or The Dog”.  Amanda says training dogs to behave at home and away from home makes for a happier environment for all.
